Trouble in removing bitlocker encryption set up for external USB hard drive using Windows Vista

As I no longer need the bitlocker password created for external USB hard drive, I thought to remove it by selecting ‘Manage Bitlocker’ after right-clicking on the drive. But when I click on ‘Remove password from this drive’ option, I get the message “this password is the only way to unlock this drive. Add another unlocking method before removing password”. What steps should I take to remove the bitlocker encryption in such a situation?

Re: Trouble in removing bitlocker encryption set up for external USB hard drive using Windows Vista

Go to the bottom part of the desktop and click the ‘Start’ button visible over there. When the start menu comes up on the screen, click the ‘Control Panel’ option from it. Locate Bitlocker Drive Encryption icon from the ‘Control Panel’ window and make a single click on it. You can then find the list of partitions on hard drive and their encryption status. Check the partitions which are encrypted. There will be an option for disabling bitlocker. Click on the option and wait until the system decrypt the bitlocker encryption.
