Unable to change customized power options on Windows Vista

I have changed certain parameters available with customized power options in my laptop running on Windows Vista. But when I turned on the laptop, the settings get changed back to default. How can I fix up this issue?

There should not be such a situation when settings are not registered in windows, but if that is what is happening, take the following action.

    1. check the system for virus and clean exhaustively.

    2. use the windows powercfg.exe tool to configure power option.
Click START--ALL PROGRAMS--ACCESSORIES--COMMAND PROMPT--type run as administrator, or click continue.
    type , powercfg-setactive scheme_GUID and press enter.
type , powercfg/list to list the power schemes and press enter .
    type exit when done.

This will install the power scheme in windows. Be cautious as any mishandling of registry will render your system useless.

    Hi.
    Follow the below steps:
    >>Open Power Options by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Power Options.
    >>In the left pane, click Create a power plan.
    >>On the Create a power plan page, select the plan that's closest to the type of plan that you want to create.
    >>In the Plan name box, type a name for the plan, such as "Giving a presentation," and then click Next.
    >>On the Change settings for the plan page, choose the display and sleep settings that you want to use when your computer is running on battery and when it's plugged in.
    >>To keep your display turned on during presentations
    >>Change the Turn off display after setting to Never for both On battery and Plugged in.
    >>To keep your mobile PC awake during presentations
    >>Change the Put the computer to sleep setting to Never for both On battery and Plugged in.
    >>Click Create.
    Thank you.
