Unable to change drive letter on Windows Vista

Even though my system running on Windows Vista allows me to change the driver letter, the old letter will appear again while rescanning or refreshing the Disk Manager. I tried many times to correct this and get failed. Is there any fix available for this issue?

Re: Unable to change drive letter on Windows Vista

Go to the link http://download.cnet.com/Partition-W...ml?tag=mncol;6 from your browser and download minitool partition wizard. Once you install that program, open it by double clicking on the set up file. Then, locate the drive whose letter you want to change and right click on it. Choose ‘change letter’ option from the right click menu. Click on the dropdown menu next to ‘new drive letter’ label. Select the letter you want and press the ‘OK’ button. Finally, make a single click on ‘Apply’ button available at the bottom left corner.

    hello guest !!

to the best of my knowledge.
you cant change the drive letters, since it is permanent and read only.
even administrator can also not change the drive letter.
but you can chanege drive name.
    for eg:

suppose you are having your drive:

    D:(Multimedia)
    you can do this:-
    D:(songs)

    but you cant do this:
    E:(Multimedia)

    if you will give E
    it will take as:
    D:E(Multimedia)

    hope you are clear.

    thanksfor posting in EALP.

    Hi...

i think you select a previous defined drive letter
    eg- you have drive C,D,E

then do't select letter C,D,E during rename time

fallow the step to rename the drive

    >>right click on my computer
    >>click on "Manage"
    >>select "Disk management"
    >>after few minut you see drive in right side of the window
    >>right click on the drive to rename
    >>click on "Change drive letter and path"
    >>click on "change"
    >>now select drive letter in drop down menu and click to ok

    All the best

    Hi,

To change drive letter in Windows Vista take the following path :
    1. Open "Computer Management utility", then "Windows Vista Disk Management".
You can also open Disk Management from the Command Prompt in Windows Vista.
    2. On the right-hand side of the screen, right-click on "drive" that you wish to change the drive letter of and select "Change Drive Letter and Paths...."
    3. In "Change Drive Letter and Paths" window, click "Change...".
    4. In the "Change Drive Letter or Path" dialog box select drive letter you wish to assign to this partition and Click OK.
    5. Window appears to advise that "Some programs that rely on drive letters might not run correctly. Do you want to continue?".
click Yes. And change should be nearly instant.

      Thanks.
