I am a windows xp user. I use Run dialogue box so often. When i type anything,it shows the history of tasks done by me. I want to clear the history but not able to find any such settings. I know that i can use third party cleaner softwares but i don't want to use any third party tool.Do you know any method to accomplish my task?

Re: Unable to clear the Run dialog box history in windows xp

In your windows XP desktop, right click on Taskbar and choose Properties. Now navigate to the start Menu and click on "Customize".You will see another Pop-up window with two tabs i.e "General" and "Advanced". You need to click on the "Advanced" tab and then on the clear list button. It will clear the history of recently opened files and commands. Additionally,it will also erase the records of websites visited through internet explorer. To clear the entries from the Run dialogue box, open the "Registry Editor" and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\RunMRU. Now remove all entries to clear the entire list.

Re: Unable to clear the Run dialog box history in windows xp

In order to clear the entries from the Run dialogue box, you can take two possible methods.

    1. In Windows XP, right click on "Taskbar", select "Properties", navigate to "Start Menu" and click "Customize".
Pop-up window will appear, click on "Advanced", then on "clear list".
It will clear the history of recently opened files and commands.

    2. Entries from the Run dialogue box can be cleared also by,opening the "Registry Editor",
    navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Explorer\RunMRU.
remove all entries to clear the entire list.

Following this there will be no record left for the Run to show from history.

Follow the given instructions to clear the Run box history:-

    > Right click on 'Start' -> select 'Properties'.

    > In the properties window that appears, by default you get 'Start Menu' tab. Click -> "Customize" button -> "Advanced" tab for standard menu.

    > Now in the customize window, click on the "Clear/Clear List" button to remove all kind of records. Click 'OK' to save it and close.

    This should fix your problem...
