Unable to find any way to change the drive letter of a mapped network drive without disconnecting and remapping it

I am a windows 7 user and currently trying to find a method to change the driver letter of a mapped network drive without disconnnecting or remapping it. However i haven't found any such method yet but i know that it is possible. I have visited many forums but almost all users suggested me to disconnect it.Do you know any method?

Yes definitely. You can do that and the steps are also not very tough. To do the same, click on start button>>Run>>Type Regedit. Now navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Network\". Here you would be able to see all network drivers, you have mapped as a list of letters. Just choose the desired one and right click on it. Choose the "Rename" option. Then type a new drive letter name.Once done, close the registry editor and restart your computer. Now you will find that, you network drive is associated with new drive letter. It means you have changed the network driver letter without disconnecting or re-mapping it.
