Unable to find Network icon on taskbar in Windows Vista

The network icon appears to be missing from the taskbar on my PC upgraded to Windows Vista. But, there is no issue in connecting my PC to internet. What should I do to restore this icon?

Navigate into Start->Run and press the ‘OK’ button after entering regedit into the corresponding field. Once you get into the Registry Editor window, go to the left side bar and get into HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion \TrayNotify. Then, you need to delete both ‘IconStreams’ and ‘PastIconsStream’ values. Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc key to launch the Task Manager and press the ‘Processes’ tab. Choose ‘Explorer.exe’ and click on ‘End Process’ button. Press the ‘Applications’ tab and select ‘New Task..’ option located at the bottom right part of the window. Type ‘explorer.exe’ into the message box and hit the ‘OK’ button. This will reload explorer.exe and restore Network icon on task bar.

You may also try the steps mentioned below to resolve the issue:

    1. Go to Start > Run (or Windows-key + "R"), type in "regedit" and hit "OK".
    2. Navigate to the key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion \TrayNotify"
    3. Delete the values "IconStreams" and "PastIconsStream"
    4. Now open up the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), go to the "Processes" tab, select "explorer.exe" and click "End Process"
    5. Now open the "Applications" tab and click "New Task..." at the bottom-right of the window.
    6. In the message box that pops up type in "explorer.exe" and hit "OK"
    7. Explorer.exe will reload, and the missing icons should now be back in the system-tray where they belong.
