Unable to increase the resolution of desktop in Windows Vista Home Basic

I have recently installed windows Vista Home Basic and it is working fine as well. I want to increase the resolution of my desktop because my current screen resolution doesn't exceed 1280x720. Is there any way to do that either through any software or some like that. Kindly give your valuable response.

Re: Unable to increase the resolution of desktop in Windows Vista Home Basic

Make sure that, your computer is able to recognize all the drivers properly. Also note that, Your computer can't support any resolution better than the maximum resolution of your monitor. Try the below given procedure for installing the drivers:
Open "Device Manager" by navigating to "Start">>Control Panel>>System and Maintenance>>Device Manager. It can ask you for the administrator password. In this case, type the password and confirm it as well. Once done, double-click the category containing your device driver and then double click on the name of device. After that, click on "Driver" tab and choose "Update Driver". Then click on "Browse My computer for driver software" option. Select the location of your device drivers by clicking on "Browse". Let the process be completed. Finally, close the Device Manager.

Re: Unable to increase the resolution of desktop in Windows Vista Home Basic

    1. If using Norton(Etc), disable it before using System restore; info at above link.

    2. Try SR in Safe mode:

Try tapping F8 at startup, and from the list of startup selections, select Safe Mode by using UP Arrow Key to go there > then hit Enter.

Try a System Restore once there, to pick a Restore Point before your problem..

Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > pick a different time > Next > etc

    3. Malware will stop System Restore:

If necessary, do all the work inSafe Mode with Networking.

To get intoSafe Mode with Networking, tap F8 right at Power On / Startup, and use UP arrow key to get toSafe Mode with Networking from list of options, then hit ENTER.

Re: Unable to increase the resolution of desktop in Windows Vista Home Basic

The Resolution of the display does not depend only on requirement or intention of an user,
The increase in display resolution depends on,
    1. The Monitor capacity,
    2. The Graphics Card or Graphics Chipset Installed in the computer.
    3. Whether the Device Driver for display is properly functioning.

So if the monitor supports a maximum 1280x768 then that's what you can get.
Similar is the Graphics Card or Chipset if it does not support More than what you are getting you will not.
You should log into your monitor and display card manufaturers web site and check its maximum capability. And take necessary steps in accordance .
However, install latest driver for display in Windows Vista.
Click Start--Control Panel--system and maintanance--device manager--display--driver--update driver, is how to do it.

Reboot and try Display Resolution adjustment.

    Hi Friend,

    >> You are not able to increase the resolution of the Desktop in Windows Vista Home Basic.

    >> For change or increasing the resolution your system must have Graphics driver.

    >> Your system Graphics driver must support maximum resolution.

    >> If system does not support the Resolution that you want to increase then you can not increase it.

    >> So check that your system has graphics Driver.

    >> then change the Resolution.

    I Hope You will understood,

    All the Best.
