I tried playing a Video song in Windows Media Player. But unable to play it , getting a message as below. Can anybody tell what is the issue and what needs to be done?

“Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.”

Re: Unable to play video in Windows Media Player 10

Audio and Video songs comes in various formats. Windows Media player doesn’t supports all the formats. You need to update the media player through Microsoft.com so that all the codecs , skins etc will get updated. Still there is a limitation for Windows Media player is that it doesn’t supports all media file types. So try downloading latest VLC Media Player or KM Player to start playing all type of media files. Keep updating the software to get the latest codecs to get good frequency for all media files.

    Friend,
This issue may occur if the third-party DVD decoder program that is installed on your computer is not compatible.
This may also occur as windows media player is not able to play all the formats.
So if you wish you can download VLC latest version as it supports almost all the formats to play.

Re: Unable to play video in Windows Media Player 10

    Hi friend,

The two main reasons for the problem may be:-

    1. The file type is supported by the player, but the file was compressed by using a codec that is not supported by the player.

    2. The file might have been encoded by using a codec that is not supported by windows media player.

The steps the solve the above issue that you have got is:-

    1. Try playing the file on different computer and check if the file is not corrupted.

    2. Try copying the file on the computer and check if you are able to play the file.

    3. In some cases people have run into this error when the wrong audio device is selected in WMP.

    4. Tools l Options l Devices l Speakers l Properties would allow to change it.

    5. Try re-installing your sound card and video card drivers.

    6. Download and install codecs by connecting to the internet and automatically download the codecs from the player.

    7. Configure protocol settings.

Hope i have helped you in getting relevant information.

    All the best

    Thanking you...

Re: Unable to play video in Windows Media Player 10

The problem you are facing is due to the fact that you don't have the codec to play the video, so in order to get video play you have to download codecs in your PC.

Follow the steps below to cure your problem:-

You can either download codecs one by one from microsoft.com

    OR

You can download "K-Lite Codec Pack" which is full of all the codecs required for WMP .

Here is the link to download the "K-lite codec pack" http://filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/

Download and install this software and you will be able to rum all videos.

    Hi aspirant,

You are facing such problem with windows media player because:

*The file you are trying to play is not supported by windows Media Player.
*The file is a corrupted one.
*Your Windows Media Player needs to be updated.
*The file you are trying to access is damaged one, damages can happen during recovering the file, incomplete download of file, etc.

Steps to eradicate such issues :

*Run a licensed anti-virus to check out the corruption problem.
*Then try to run any other file of extension MP4 or 3gp, etc.
*If it runs then the problem lies with file type.
*Or else download another meida player named Vlc player and try to run the file.
*If the file does not run then the file is a damaged file.
*If you want only to use windows media Player then try updating it.
*Then activate its file type to all the file types and try running it.
*It will help you to some extent.

-The upgrade of Os is required.

The solution to your problem is:-

-Make sure you are trying to play the compatible files.

-If not, then convert it to the desired format using video converter.

-Make sure the files you are trying to play is not corrupted.

-If everything is fine, then there might be issue with the
    windows media player.

-Check whether it is crashed or not.

    -If crashed,then uninstall it.

-Download and install the latest compatible version of the
    windows media player.

    -Restart your system.

-If it is not crashed, then check for its updates.

    -Install the latest available updates.

    -Restart the system.

-If still problem persists, upgrade the OS of your system.

Re: Unable to play video in Windows Media Player 10

    Hello friend,

I have the solution for your problem just do as i say..................

1.The problem which you are facing is because of the format of the video.

2.Only the MPEG-2 video or DVD-MS TV files can be supported.

3.All other files are not supported.

4.So you install the Any Video Converter software.

5.And by using that convert the format.

6.Or you install VLC player to play all the formats.

    Have a nice day..........................

Re: Unable to play video in Windows Media Player 10

You can take three distinct steps which will enable you to play video in your computer.

Log into www.microsoft.com, find Windows Media Player 10 or some advance version of it which is compatible to your whatever version Windows you are using. Download and install. They latest WMP might be able to play more formats unlike the previous versions.

Log into internet, search for CODEC PACKs many of which are found over there , download any and install in the WMP of your system. Now try playing the videos, with active Codec Pack they should start playing.

Log into internet, search for VLC player/KM player/REAL player download any and play almost all formats of video file without hassle.

    To solve your problem

    • The windows media player will not support all the file formats.
    • Then file you are trying to play is not supported by the windows media player so you are getting this error message
    • You can download the software apps like VLC media player,Win Amp,Media Player Classic,GOM player
    • These will support all most all types of media files
    • and also update the software regularly.
    • Now you can be able to play any type of media file by using these software

this may be due to unsupported file format

or may be the windows media player is corrupted

or the file playing is corrupted

so first of all scan your system completely

then try to play another file

or convert that file to another format using
    format factory
    all in one video converter
    to the desired format

otherwise need to uninstall the current media player

go to the official site of windows

download a latest and compatible version of it and install it

    then restart your device

    and its done

Re: Unable to play video in Windows Media Player 10

Audio along with Video clip songs comes into play numerous formats. Microsoft windows Advertising battler doesn't encourages all of the formats. You should up-date a mass media battler through Microsoft.com therefore that each a codecs , themes etcetera will get updated. Even now you will find there's limit intended for Microsoft windows Advertising battler is that it doesn't encourages most mass media document types. Therefore attempt downloading most recent VLC Advertising Participant or maybe KM Participant to begin playing most form of mass media files. Continue to keep modernizing software program to have the most recent codecs to acquire great rate of recurrence for those mass media files.
This matter may occur if the third-party DVD decoder program that is certainly mounted on your pc will not be compatible.
Additionally, it can occur as windows mass media battler struggles to have fun with all of the formats.
Therefore if you want it is possible to acquire VLC most recent model because it encourages the vast majority of types to help play.
