    Hi.
    Follow the below methods:
    Method 1:
    >>On the sign-in screen when messenger first starts, click on the help button on the right with the (?) and in the menu, put a tick next to "Show the menu bar".

    >>OK - now you can access the menus at the top of the window. Go to Tools->Options.

    >>In the window that appears, click on "sign in" on the list to the left, and un-tick the top box on the right ("Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log onto Windows")

    >>Next time you reboot, Live Messenger shouldn't load up at startup.

    >>It may be worth uninstalling and downloading it again to see if there is an updated version that may work better.

    Method 2:
    >>sign on to windows live messenger
    >>click the down arrow that lets you select online, busy, away, etc. and go to the bottom and select "options"
    >>Choose the "general" tab
    >>uncheck the box beside, "Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows.
    >>Click the 'Accept' button.

    Thank you.
