Upgrading from windows xp to vista shutting down the computer?

After a grueling week of intense Vista RTM testing, I still can't get Vista stable on my primary computer yet even though I've swapped out all the bad memory. This same PC has worked with and continues to work with Windows XP just fine. Even with the good memory in the computer, it locks up every hour or two and forces me to hard shut the system to reboot. What is the problem with?

There must problem with the RAM of your PC. Since Window Vista requires more RAM than XP, besides you have also installed lot of software, which further eats up your
RAM. So, you should either upgrade RAM of your PC, (its easy , you can easily increase it by 1GB).
Or else dont use heavy softwares like EA games, counter strike . (Dont install them).

Or continue with your previous window XP.

I thing it is due to unsupportable hardware configuration. That means
your RAM size. you did not mention how many RAM your computer have.
Also you did not mention that your installed vista OS is of 32 bi or 64 bit.

So getting complete solution please mention all above things then I can
    say correct about.
But one thing more, Window Vista is a rejected version and it is announced
failed so it will be batter that you use either windows XP or most batter if
    it is Windows 7.

Window vista work properly in the following configurations in a computer system [p4 and above, 512 mb of ram, 1.6 ghz of processing speed, DVD drive and 4gb upward hdd) but if your computer system meet up with this requirements, then change your hard disc drive.

Firstly, check the size of your RAM (512 and above) and funtionality observe your motherboard to ensure that no integrated circuit get bad. Eg. Capacitor. And also observe that the processor and your hard drive are in good health.

Re: Upgrading from windows xp to vista shutting down the computer?

1.) Leave the PC rest for about 1 hour
2.) Unplug the battery, run only on external power supply
3.) Without opening it, I used a Compressed air can to clean the air filters.
4.) Placed it in a cold environment (I put it directly in stone floor, and placed a normal fan next to it)
5.) Turn off the auto-shut off overheat system in BIOS (Phoenix Bios, should be easy to find out)
6.) Inserted the WinXP CD in and pray for the best...

It worked, so I hope this tips help you.

    Hello,
If you have upgraded the OS
Then there can be a possibility that your computer does not have the minimum requirements which are needed to install windows vista.
    Check the minimum requirements needed.
Otherwise you can always install a fresh copy of vista on your machine.

    Regards
    -Abhishek

Friend you might be facing such kind of problem because your system might not be compatible with the windows vista.
To work on with vista the RAM requirement is more than that in case with XP.
So i think you need to upgrade ypur hardwares.
If your system has an empty slot for RAM then you can buy 1gb RAM and insert there.
    This would solve your problem.

    Hello friend....

This is because your memory of ram may be very less than
the required for Windows VIsta to run in your pc you then
you upgrade it by purchasing a new ram

or even if it was available & it does doesn't work then you
might have installed lot of softwares & Games.......

    Have a nice day............
