Volume control not working on Windows 7

Volume control seems to be not working in my PC running on Windows 7. I am not getting any response while left-clicking on the speaker icon. It is not possible to open ‘volume mixer’ or ‘volume control options’ while right clicking on the speaker icon. What should I do to get back the volume control?

    Do these steps :-
    1) click start-> control panel -> Device Manager
    2) There are many options, click and expand "Sound, video and game controllers".
    3) Locate the audio device that was included with the computer.
    4) Right click and select "Properties"
    5) Click on "Driver" tab, and click uninstall.
    6) Make sure that the Delete the Driver Software for this device check box is cleared, and then click OK.
    7) In the "Device Manager" dialog box, click the "Action" menu, and then click "Scan for hardware changes".

You receive a message that states that a hardware device is being installed, and then the uninstalled audio device appears in Device Manager

    8) Close the "Device Manager" dialog box

Now download the latest drivers and install it from below links

    hi there,

This is not an usual problem. It might be a result of a virus attack.

    My recommendations would be :

    * Run a FULL SYSTEM SCAN of your PC with a good Antivirus
    * Restore your PC to an earlier point, via SYSTEM RESTORE

START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SYSTEM TOOLS > SYSTEM RESTORE

    Thank You..!!

    1. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then clickRun as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow

    2. Type the following command, and then press ENTER:
    sfc /scannow
A message will appear stating that 'The system scan will begin'. Be patient because the scan may take some time

    3. If any files require a replace SFC will replace them. You may be asked to insert your Win7 DVD for this process to continue

    4. If everything is okay you should, after the scan, see the following message "Windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations"

    5. After the scan has completed, close the command prompt window, restart the computer and check.
Check the below mentioned link for further guidance on SFC scan -http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
You may also refer to the below link for assistance -

    Hi friend.,

->I saw your post i think there is an problem in your's system or else audio drivers are not installed correctly.

->Better once go to "control panel" and select "Hardware and sounds" option to check for device supporting.
    or
->"Right click" on the icon of the speakers on the desktop and make to check all the options.

->Either if virus is attack in the system some of the components of softwares are not worked properly.

->Check once or else install the drivers seperately.

    dear friend,

Since the problem has many reasons, so there is more than one possible ways by which you can solve the problem.

At first uninstall/re-install the sound driver software.

Then check that your sound drivers are upgraded or not.

If it is not updated then update this to the latest.

    Click on the Start button.

Type dvcmgmt.msc in the search box & hit enter-It'll open device manager window.

Expand Sound, Video & Game controller option & right click on the driver which is currently installed on your computer.

Click on Update Driver software option.

After updates get installed, check for the problem.

If this shows the problem again then perform a system restore from a working & well restore point.

    Hope it'll solve your issue.

If this also doesn't help you then it's the hardware problem.

Bring your computer to the nearest service station & check for the hardware.
