    Warning message: "Write Protected" while opening USB Flash drives connected to Windows XP.

    No matter what drive I connect to my PC and what size drive I connect, whenever I connect any flash drive through USB port I get the message before opening the application saying that "Write Protected". And now am no way can make changes on my drive. Please help me soon to fix this message and continue to use the drives.

    DEAR FRIEND,

    To Fix this follow ...the below instructions

    click
    start button and choose run from the start menu

    now type
    regedit and press enter key and click yes

    now go to this address
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\StorageDevicePolicies

    if it StorageDevicePolicies does not exist simply create it your own

    and after at the right pane right click on empty area and point
    new ....select DWORD(32 bit) value

    and rename it as
    WriteProtect........... then double click on it and set the value as 0 in the value data box and click OK

    Now restart the PC ....and try again ....

    Dear friend,

    The antivirus on your system may be causing the problem. Some antiviruses block the use of USB devices to protect your PC from viruses’ infection. You should switch off of the data protection feature of the antivirus. Make sure that you have not installed any data protection utility on your drive. You need to have the same utility on your computer to access the files on the drive. In this case you can also format the drive to use it again. Some old USB SD card also have physical switch which can be switched off to turn the write protection off.
