Better install the updated version of any codec pack and this will solve your problem. You can also try Vlc player, as it doesn't require any codec pack to play multiple video formats.

Here is the link to download those:-

    K-lite codec pack - http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/

    vlc media player - http://www.filehippo.com/download_vlc/

    Dear friend,

Just update your codecs of Window Media Player , or there is another simple solution just check if the file you are trying to play with WMP is able to be played with WMP or not. If not then just install some other player like KMP Player, FLV player etc , your problem will be definately solved..

    Hi there,

Windows Media Player may not be able to play a file because that content requires a codec that either could not be downloaded to your computer, or is not supported by Windows Media Player. By default, Windows Media Player downloads codecs automatically when you need them to play a file.

Procedure to enable automatic download of codecs:

    * In Windows Media Player, click Tools, and then click Options.
    * Click the Player tab, and then click to select the Download codecs automatically check box under Automatic updates, if the check box is not already selected.
    * Click OK.

After you complete this procedure, try to play the file again. If the audio or video portion of the file is still missing, the file may require a codec that is not supported by Windows Media Player.

For such file, you can try some other media player such as VLC MEDIA PLAYER by VideoLAN. It supports the widest range of files and formats.

    Dear,
It may be due to the Old version of the Media Player, or may be due to the file formate of the video file. It may be due the unsupported file formate of the video file. there are many application program which play all the file formate of any of the media file so you can try the another application program for the playing the media file. Another possible reason for not able to play the media play because the may be corrupt. So scan the file and then try to play the file in the media program which supports the file formate.

    hi,

codecs means which a video should played in a particular codec format......example avi, mpg, like that.......

these all formats have different codecs so if you have brought an avi movie then there should be an codec supporting it........

but windows media player is old player to work with.......so i suggest you to install kmp player or vlc player......

these are very effective they can play any video.........

you can download it from the website www.file hippo.com..

    its free of cost........

Window Media Player show the "Missing Codecs" it means whose files type play in the Windows Media Player is not a supportable. so you can download the this supportable file types form the net.

you download the Mssing Codecs from the site
    http://missing-codecs.smartcode.com/
    and
    www.filehippo.com

Winodws Media Player does not support the all the file it support the some types of meadia file like avi, mp3,MPEG, mp4 but it not support the .flv file so we need to download this supportable codec file....

You used the another meadia player to play the this file type like a VLC, GOM player etc...

You can download the missing codec from Microsoft's site as you can go the site directly from window media player 11 it is very easy but keep this in mind that your windows OS should be genuine
Otherwise you can download any other video player the best player I'll suggest is Km player which can play all media.

Re: What to do if my Windows Media Player says “Missing Codecs”? How to play all the video types in Windows media player?

    Hi,

Codec`s are interpreter, analyser, medium of a program which runs multiple formats which are not readily identified by the program.

Windows Media Playe is a program and it can play some formats of files but not all, to run all types we need to add Codec`s which will make Windows Media Played identify every format.

Go to internet and search via a search engine and you will find codec packs. Download any and install it in the Windows, WMP will accept the codec and all formats will be played in the player.

    Thanks.

Usually this happens when file format is not supported. To run these files you have to download codec pack. The K-lite codec pack is the one which can be useful to you.
You can download it from fileshippo or from Apphit or by simply typing on google.
Otherwise you can also download the media players like Vlc,gom, real,km players etc.

    Hi friend,
If you get the message that says "that your computer is missing a codec then you are probably trying to play a file that was compressed by using a codec that Windows or the Player doesn't include by default.
you can download these codecs FourCc identifier
for video codecs and for audio Waveformat. or
You can also download other media players such as K lite, Km player, vlc media player.
    Thank You!
