What does Windows could not start error means while formatting one of the disk drive?

I am unable to clean up my disk drives because whenever I try to format the disk it says “ Windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem.” Can I fix this problem by myself? What are the steps I should follow? Can you help me doing it with proper details of it?

    Hi,

the message you are receiving is somewhat unclear to me,as so far i understand things, formatting a drive will permanently wipe of the contents of that drive and possibly you will be needed to install Windows afresh. So if you have the knowledge of that possibility whats going to stop you from formatting the drive provided you have the original Windows CD with you. Of course you can format the other drive which is not a bootable drive, but if windows prompt you to stop that action, must be some kind of installation related to windows are residing in that drive too and if formatted it will lose the data permanently, hence the caution. As the situation is not clear to me, so my suggestion is if you are ready for a fresh installation of Windows, format the drive, else use scandisk and defrag to keep the health of the drive okay with the old installation.

    Thank you.

i think there is a problem with the harddisc ......check the conectors of your hard drive and try it .....if there is a same problem .......then re-install your OS and delete all the drives and create new drives when the installing of OS

some times the corrupted data is creates a this type of problem for the checking of this you need to perform the defragmentation for this

    1. Right click on the corresponding drive and choose properties

    2. choose tools tab

    3. select middle option defragement and check

    Hi ,

Up to the my understanding you had formatted the C drive of your system which is the system drive which contains windows files and which are deleted now

My friend you have re-install you window through dvd/pen drive

If you don't have WINDOW 7 DVD then don't worry you can also boot it from pen drive but you have to make pen drive boot able as:

    1. Open the command prompt box from start menu and follow these points one by one :

    - DISKPART
    - LIST DISK
    - SELECT DISK 1
    - CLEAN
    - CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    - SELECT PARTITION 1
    - ACTIVE
    - FORMAT FS=FAT32
    - ASSIGN
    - EXIT

    2. Now your pen drive is a boot able disk copy the windows files you want to install in your pc/laptop

    hii

I think for this problem you can try out by doing a system restore ..
I am sure a system restore will work out and solve the problem for you ...

For this follow these steps :

    - Switch on the power supply and press the power button to boot windows into your pc
    - During the booting process press and hold F8 for a moment
    - While you press and hold F8 a menu screen will appear
    - The screen must be saying that ' please select an operating system to start menu '..
    - Select your operating system from that menu and press F8 again
    - Now , in the next screen highlight the option of ' last known good configuration ' and press enter key

After all the above steps windows will now load with the last known good configuration mode and then you will be able to format your drive easily..

    thanks
