What has to be done for opening .wmv files received through e-mail on Windows XP PC in Windows Media Player 11?

Whenever I open .wmv files received via my hotmail account using my PC running on Windows XP, they will open in a program which can’t support .wmv files. I need to open them in Windows Media Player 11 all the time. How do we set it accordingly?

As a first step, download the file attachment to your desktop screen. Then, right click on that file and wait until the context menu pop up on the screen. Navigate through that menu afterwards and click the ‘Choose Program’ option. This will bring up a window from which select ‘Windows Media Player’ from the available list. You can then find ‘Always use the selected program to open this kind of file’ label at the bottom part of that window along with a checkbox. Click on that checkbox until you can see a tick mark inside it. After that, make a single press on the ‘OK’ button visible on that window.

    Hi,

Any format of file can be opened provided they are media files and notified to the Windows Media Player so that it can identify the file type and use proper codec to execute that.

Take the following steps to set the WMP to play .WMV files.

Download the file attachment to desktop.
Right click on said file, to invoke context menu .
Click "Choose Program". From the provided list select "Windows Media Player" .
Click checkbox "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
    Click "OK" .

This should intimate WPM to open and execute files with .wmv extention.

    Thanks.

    Hello friend...

.wmv files are the Windows Media Video file so this file run in the Windows Media. Window Media by default install in the windows. but this file can't be run in the Window Media player.

In the Window Media we can make a video so it file format is different so you need to run this file in the windows media player you need to download the .wmv codec file. After install the codec file you can run this file in the windows media player..

    all the best!!

    Hi.
    Create a file association.
    >>Download and save the attachment on the desktop.
    >>Right click on the saved file.
    >>Select: Open With from the pop-up menu.
    >>Click: Choose [default] Program.
    >>Select: Windows Media Player.
    >>Check: Always use the selected program to open this kind of file.
    >>Click OK.

This should enable you to open these attachments directly from the e-mail now.

    Thank you.
