    Dear friend,

There is no Shortcut for "Mute" in Windows 7.

You will have to Mute yourself by clicking on the Sound Icon of the Taskbar.

After clicking, you will see a Icon of Speaker, just click on it to Mute and again click to Unmute.

However, there is another option to Mute from Control Panel.

    Hi,

The system is dependent on manufacturer and model.

Still if it is a laptop, you will find "Fn" and Up/Down arrow to control and F2 or F7 to MUTE.

Other than that softwares like VLC, WMP, KMPlayer etc. has control of mute in their buttons.

    Thanks.

Re: What is the shortcut for “mute” in windows 7?

CREATE OWN MUTE SHORTCUT IN WINDOWS7,XP,VISTA

    1 Right-click your shortcut and
    2 choose Properties.
3 With the Shortcut tab in front, click the 'Shortcut key' box,
4 press the keys you want for toggling your system sound. If you select just a function key (one of the Fx keys at the top of your keyboard) or a key on the numeric keypad, you won't be able to use that key for anything else; instead, choose Ctrl, Alt, Shift, Ctrl- Alt, Ctrl- Shift, Alt- Shift, or Ctrl- Alt- Shift along with another key. And try to pick a combination that you don't use in another program (see FIGURE 3). Click OK.
5 If you later delete this shortcut, you'll need to restart Windows before the key combination you chose becomes free again.
