What should I do if I am unable to install the Realtek AC97 drivers for Audio in my Windows 7 OS?

I recently upgraded my Windows XP to Windows 7, everything seems to work fine except the Audio. So I downloaded the Realtek AC97 driver from internet and when I tried to install it just failed. What should I do? How to make the Audio work properly in my Windows 7 OS?

    Hello friend ,

This problem occurs when you are trying to install driver which is not compatible with your system.

If you are using dell then you can get audio driver by
    clicking here.

If you are using acer then you can get audio driver by
    clicking here.

    Good luck.....!!!!

Firstly remove any Realtek Audio through Add and Remove Programs and then through Device Manager. See if SoundMax works for you.I can't guarantee it, None has a final answer so I don't know if either driver worked.
After that we should have to follow these steps:-
    1.Firstly Install realtek audio driver.
    2. Then reboot it again.
    3. Then Download and try to install the conexant ac 97 audio driver. You can get the one from gateway *that uses this chip in the notebook.
    4. Now Go to device manager, find the realtek ac 97 audio item under sound, video, and game controllers¯. Right click on it and select update driver
    5. After that select no if it asks to connect to windows update, click next
6.Then *select install from a list of specific location¯ and click next
    7. Then select dont search. I will choose the driver to install¯ and click next
8.Now *de-select show compatible hardware¯.conexant should show up under manufacturer since you tried to install the driver earlier.*
    9. Then click on conexant on the left, then select conexant ac-link audio¯ on the right and click next the driver will install. It may ask you for the location of some files, point it to the directory the conexant driver uncompressed to in step 3.*
10.Reboot, and you should have working audio.

    hiiiiiii
As You said have upgraded your PC from xp to 7,then windows 7 internally installs audio drivers while installing Windows 7,but you also wanted to install other audio drivers then download the same bit(32 bit or 64 bit) software's with respect to your operating system and also some drivers are not allowed to install in windows 7 ,try to install other audio drivers.
    Thank You

    Hi,
The problem of upgradation comes from a number of reasons, and let me explain a few for you.

There might be compatibility problems, means the driver that you have is not compatible to the card or even to the windows you are using. Change the driver by downloading a fresh Realtel AC driver from the Realtel site and install that.

The media CD/DVD in which the files are stored may have corrupted and the drive cannot recover the file from the media to install.

The drive which is in use to read the CD/DVD may be not functioning well.

Correct those and you will be fine.
