No, the system does not get shut down automatically after pressing the shut down button on the start menu of a Windows XP computer. You will be able to see three different options when you press shut down. The three options are Restart, Hibernate and Shutdown. The restart button will restart the computer if it is clicked upon. The shut down button will then close all programs and then shut down the computer. The Hibernate option is an option in which the computer goes to sleep. The systems processor will be running and all the programs will be put on hold. The system can be woken up by simply pressing the enter button.

Friend, when ever you Press Start Button. It will show you 3 options as Shut down, Hibernate and Restart. When you Press Restart, your System will Restart. Hibernate is going to Sleep but the Processes will be running Back Ground. shut Down will save all the changes and the System Shuts Down. You can have any option based on the Requirement.

Re: What are the various actions possible with shut down button on the windows XP computer?

there are different types of functioning in different computers. like in my laptop i have windows 7. when you click on the shut down option. it first aware you if there is any program still running in the background and gives an option to cancel the shut down process and let the program close completely. other than cancel it asks you to force shut down which will shut your computer down without saving anything.
in windows XP there are three options offered, they are: restart; shut down; hibernate.
if you click on restart, it will restart. if you click hibernate, it will go to sleep or can say you have kept it on hold.

    Hello friend,

I am sorry for you as what you have asked have no solution......

When you go to start menu and click on 'Shut Down' you will definitely get get
three options as it was programmed like that for every OS it is common.

Even in the task bar you will get the many option when you click on shutdown

To make your system shutdown directly do as i say......

1.Firstly make a right click on the empty desktop.

2.There you go to the option 'New'.

3.Now a sub-menu will open there you select the option 'Shortcut'.

4.Name it as 'Shutdown.exe' and press enter.

That's it when you want to shutdown your computer make a double click on it.

    All the best..........

Re: What are the various actions possible with shut down button on the windows XP computer?

    Hello friend,

I have the solution for your problem it is:-

You cannot shut down your computer directly by pressing the shut down button.
It's compulsory that you have to face all the three options.

It's programmed like that in every computer. So we cannot change it.
Not only in Windows XP in all OS we can see all the three options.

In some computers you even can notice there will be 4 options.

    Hibernate,
    Shutdown,
    Restart,
    Stand by.

    Have a nice day......
