There is no issue with your computer. It appears that default video player of windows 8 has limited functionality so it fails to play some video formats properly. You are trying to play an "mpeg" file which is also not supported by windows 8. That's probably the reason why you are only able to hear sound rather than watching the video. If you want to play these video files then install a third party software i.e VLC media player or any other video player. Microsoft engineers are trying to add more functionality but till now windows 8 lacks some functionalities.

    Hello.
To fix this issue, you must install the proper Windows Media Player Codecs on your computer. This will support all the DVD videos to play using Windows Media Player on your computer.

Unfortunately, there are no Codecs developed by Microsoft. So, I suggest you to download the Windows Media Player Codec pack from the below link.

Click here to download the Codec Pack.

After installing the Codec Pack, restart your computer.
Now, you will be able to play the Videos using Windows Media Player.

    Regards
    Vincent Daniel.

    hey hello ..

This problem might arise when the
video is not in the supporting format

    convert the video to the
    supporting format .

which the media player accepts ..

or else you can simply install any of the
    supporting third party player .

which can play the videos .

    Thank you..

Dear friend this is the codec problem and the the missing graphics adaptor driver.

    Follow these steps.
    1. Right click on the my computer and click device manager.
    2. Right click on the graphics adaptor and click on the update driver.
    3. Click on the search for drivers automatically.
    4. You need to have active internet connection to be able to update.
    5. Now download and install the k-lite mega codec pack.
    6. Download and install vlc media player
    7. Now try to play the videos
    8. Your videos shall play fine
