    Why ActiveX controls not running in internet explorer after security update 896688?

    I have recently made Internet Explorer update 896688 and now having an issue that Active X stopped running internet explorer. I am using windows XP professional SP2. Can anyone explain me the reason behind this so that I can fix it.

    you get this error because a Web page containing an ActiveX control does not load as expected.This problem occur when some sub keys are missing from the registry.
    To solve the problem do as follows
    RUN->type Notepad.exe, and then click OK.
    Paste the following text in the Notepad document:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}] @="ClassMoniker" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32] @="ole32.dll" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProgID] @="clsid" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\CLSID] @="{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

    1. On the File menu, click Save. The Save As dialog box appears.
    2. In the Save in box, click Desktop.
    3. In the File name box, type KB909889.reg.
    4. In the Save as type box, click All Files, and then click Save.
    5. On the File menu, click Exit.
    6. On the desktop, double-click KB909889.reg, and then click Yes to add the information to the registry.
    7. Click OK to confirm that the information in the KB909889.reg file has been added to the registry.
    8. Restart the computer.

    Active X control may not load as expected in Internet Explorer due to defense in depth changes introduced in security update 896688 .
    >>This issue occurs when the Web page that contains the ActiveX control is located in the Internet zone.
    >>You would not face this problem if the website is located in the intranet or the site is a trusted one.
    >>You can overcome this problem
    Setting the ActiveX compatibility value in the registry.


    ::::::STEPS TO BE FOLLOWED:::::::
    • Click Start,then click Run in the box that appears type Regedit.exe and then click OK.
    • Locate the ActiveX Compatibility sub key.

    • It is located as
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>>>............SOFTWARE>>>...... ......Microsoft>>>...........Internet Explorer>>>..............ActiveX Compatibility
    • Right-click on ActiveX Compatibility point to New, click Key, type the CLSID for the ActiveX control, and then press ENTER.
    • Right-click the key that you created in step 3, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
    • Type Compatibility Flags, and then press ENTER.
    • Right-click Compatibility Flags, and then click Modify.
    • In the Value data box, type 00800000, and then click OK.
    • Quit Registry Editor.

    dear friend,

    follow these steps to solve your problem-

    open run window by pressing windows+R.

    type notepad.exe & click ok.

    paste the following command in the notepad-
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}] @="ClassMoniker" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\InprocServer32] @="ole32.dll" [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\ProgID] @="clsid" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\CLSID] @="{0000031A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}"

    on the file menu click save as- a dialog box will appear.

    select the desktop location in the save box.

    save the file as KB909889.reg & select all files type.save the file.

    exit from the file menu.

    open the KB909889.reg file by double clicking on it.click yes to add the information to the registry.

    Click OK to confirm that the information in the KB909889.reg file has been added to the registry.

    restart your computer to save changes.
