I think the update registry file is missing in your windows 8 copy which you installed in your PC.
This is due to corrupt window.
In my opinion, you can download a copy of this windows from Microsoft official website and then install later.
Now you can update your window and take benefit of the latest and advance features of Windows 8.
If the update problem is still persist, then restore your window and before doing this, make sure that you crated a back-up of all your important, necessary and related documents.
