Windows registry is nothing but the control centre for your computer which is like the power to the house if some mismatch is done in the registry then probably the application or windows fails to work properly, so it is good to be cautious before changing something in the Windows Registry.

Windows registry mainly consists of the individual program settings and configuration information. The registry is made up of three important components which are 1) Keys 2) Subkeys 3) Values.

You can open the Windows registry by opening Run command ( Windows key + R ) and type regedit to open the Windows registry window.

Windows Registry is basically a database of your computer. You can also think of it as a history of all the work that you do on your machine. In this database you have OS configurations, other hardware configurations that are used along your PC,information on the software programs you have used and information on the system files. Many a times when your system does not work properly it is assumed that there is some wrong entry in this registry. You can go to the Registry editor from the run option from the Start button. Although you can change the Windows registry options but it is a central database where many information regarding the applications you use are kept. So unless there is an emergency or there is some booting error and you can't access your saved files or your desktop properly, you must not change it. I would also ask you that if you are not confident enough then let the respective engineer or vendor who installed the system in your machine, change the registry as and when required.
