Windows 7 canít edit and save hosts files

Even though there are no issues with my PC after upgrading to Windows 7, I am having trouble with host files. My system does not provide an option to edit and save these files. What has to be done for activating such a feature?

Get into the desktop and click the ‘Start’ button visible over there. Navigate through the start menu afterwards and click the ‘All Programs’ option. The next step required is to make a single click on ‘Accessories’ option. Find out the ‘Notepad’ option and right click on it. Select ‘Run as Administrator’ option from the pop-up menu. If you are asked for password or confirmation, type in the password or click either Allow/Yes accordingly. Try to open the host files afterwards and make the necessary changes. After that, get into File menu and click the ‘Save’ option.

    1. Open Notepad
    2. Click File | Open in Notepad and browse to:
      C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc
    3. Make sure the etc folder is highlighted (selected). Now change the file type so it reads "All files". You should now see the HOSTS file appear in the directory list.
    4. Double-click the HOSTS file and it will open in Notepad for editing.
      1. In Windows 7, you will not be able to save edits to the HOSTS file unless you open it directly from Notepad (follow the steps described above).
      2. If you have difficulty saving the modified HOSTS file, check the file's attributes to see if it's been marked Read Only.
