Windows 7 not starting up with upgraded RAM of 4GB

I have bought a Dell Laptop recently. I have a RAM of 1GB in it. I do not want the speed as I am getting now with this processor so I thought to raise my RAM storage. I bought a 4 GB RAM for it and installed it in the another slot than the slot of 1 GB. I re-installed the operating system once I did installing the new RAM. The problem is , I could not find the entire new RAM storage on my system. It shows only 3GB of it. Where the older one with 1 GB remains the same. While the newer one shows low memory and I do not know how it happens. I tried by doing multiple booting of operating system with windows 7. Please help me out by giving a exact solution.

This is the problem occurs only with 32-bit processor. Most of the people doing this same mistake. To upgrade the RAM, first you need to do is upgration of the processor. Your processor must support RAM memory. If you had 32-bit processor then it will show you only 3.5GB where 2 GB is for RAM and 1 GB for Graphics card. For this problem, you need to use 64-bit processor. Only the 64-bit processor will satisfy your extended RAM memory. You also in need to install 64-bit Operating system to support both 64-bit processor and 4 GB RAM. SO kindly buy a 64-bit OS and 64-bit processor to solve your problem.

    Hi,
The problem you are into is something of a serious nature.
It has something to do with 32 bit / 64 bit processing issue.
32 bit processors has limitations in addressing the quantum of RAM installed, they cant address more than 3Gbb ut 64 bit processors can.
You might have the same issue.
Again check your RAM for its capacity and health.
Chech the slot you have inserted the RAM if it has any fault in it.
    Verify those and proceed accordingly.
    Thank you.
