The easiest way to fix this issue is through command prompt. For doing the same, type "cmd" in the start search box. You will see command prompt option in the result. Right click on "Run as Administrator". It will open the command prompt window. Type "net stop wuauserv" command in that window and hit the enter button on your keyboard. In next line, type "ren c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution softwaredistribution.old" and hit the Enter button again. Once done, type "net start wuauserv" and hit the Enter button again. Finally, type "Exit" and press Enter button again to come out of command prompt. It will fix your issue.

Re: Windows 7 returns an error Code 8024800A during an update

    Hello there !!!

since your window was not able to search for the new updates and it
pops you with the error code 8024800A it means that you are having the network issue related to
    the updates.

since the updation of the windows generally fails due to the below mentioned reason:-

    1. your network connection might be too slow for the updates,
since windows update require a particular network bandwidth to install its update,
if the particular bandwidth is not being provided, then it raises updation issue.

    2. you must also check the INTERNET configuration, whether your home network
    is configured properly or not.

    3. also look in the windows update setting, whether it has been configured manually or automatically.

so try to make the above points clear before going for the next updation.

hope i am clear to you.
    thanks for posting in EALP.
