Windows 7 shows error message: 0X00000709 while setting up default printer

It is not possible to set a printer as default on my PC running on Windows 7. Every time I try to make an attempt for that, I will get an error code “0X00000709” on the screen. How can I get rid of this error?

First of all, Backup your Registery then follow these steps :-

    1) Click on Start.

    2) Type regedit in the start search and click Enter.

    3) Move to the location mentioned below.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows

    4) In the right column, you will find key Device, change the value to your Printer name.

    5) It is of the format for example: "HP LaserJet 4250 PCL6,winspool,Ne03:".

    6) Right click on the value and click on Rename, change it to your printer name.

To solve your problem, try the given solutions one-by-one:-

    Solution 1:

    > Click Start menu -> Run -> enter "regedit" on the box -> OK. This will help you open the Registry Editor.

    > Find and locate on this registry entry" HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-3\"

    > Select the Export option on the file menu and store it in other place.

    > Enter your PrinterName on the File Name box and save it.

    > Right click on the PrinterName -> Edit

    > Replace the current name with "hex(7):00,00" -> save the file.

    > Now close the system and restart it along with the printer for a try.

If it works then its fine else try and continue with the following solutions:-

    Solution 2:

    > Update your drivers with the latest version, better to set real-time update for your driver for future benefit.

    Solution 3:

    > Do the following modifications for the Print Server and restart the Print Spooler Service.

    1. Implement the "DnsOnWire" registry value as described in KB979602.
    2. Edit the local HOSTS file to include the CNAME for the server.

In this process, identify and make sure the HOSTS file entry must be entered as a NetBIOS name instead of FQDN, to solve the issue.

    Solution 4:

    > Try and use the "Registry Fixer" tool to get rid of this problem as this particular error may possibly due to the associated registry errors. Also you can run "Fix it" utility program to fix general PC related issues.
