Friend, it may happen due to two reasons. One is due to Problem of the Port and other is due to Power supply. So, you can insert your USB Device from One Port and try to insert in another Port. It may Work.

If it has not solved your problem, you can unplug your Power Supply to the Laptop and Insert the USB Device in the USB port. For Desktop, Shtdown the Compuetr and ON it again. Now, insert the USB Device in the USB Port. It may detect USB Device now.

First, try your USB on another computer, or How about change another driver, or it might be the problem of your USB port.
    or

USB devices stop working, and even they are perfectly fine, they would just not get detected by Windows.
1.Go to Windows Explorer and right click on Computer to go to Manage.
    2. Click Device Manager and select Universal Serial Bus Controllers from the right side.

    3. You have to manually uninstall all USB drivers like shown below, and then restart your system.

    4. Now restart your system and let it automatically detect and install the plugged hardware devices. In case it doesnt. you need to follow the same steps and instead of selecting Uninstall from the list, you would select Scan for hardware changes as shown below:

Re: Windows 8 release preview showing USB not recognized when plugging a removable device in the USB hub?

    hi there,

Windows 8 RP is still an developing version, its released only for preview of the super cool OS coming from the house of Microsoft. It's not the complete version and not fully consistent with all the devices.
It lacks some device drivers (sometimes even "plug n play" devices like pen drives). It is the same case with you. So, it shows some devices not recognized.

If it is very important to store the date stored in the pen drive, plug the drive into some other system, and copy it on some other pen drive(a different company pen drive, if possible) and you can try using the pen drive onto the Windows 8 system.

Your system should be reading the new pen drive.

    Thank you..!!
