    Windows Defender not functioning

I have installed Windows Defender last month in my PC. It asks for updates every couple of days. I have not seen any pop ups saying it has blocked or detected any files. How can I ascertain whether Windows Defender is actually working?

Turn Windows Defender Off and On:
When Windows Defender is on, you will be alerted when spyware and other potentially unwanted software tries to install itself, run on your computer, or change important Windows settings. If you use the default settings, Windows Defender will also check for new definitions, regularly scan for spyware and other potentially unwanted software, and automatically remove any detected item that has a recommended removal action.
    >>Open Windows Defender by clicking the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Defender.
    >>Click Tools, and then click Options.
    >>Under Administrator options, select or clear the Use Windows Defender check box, and then click Save. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    Thank you.

you need to take simple action to keep Windows Defender active.

Click START, in the search box, type "Windows Defender", the option will be shown, click on it.

If Windows Defender is active it will show screen, else tell you to activate it. Take adequete action.

Another thing to bear in mind is that, the Windows Defender is not showing anything means it is inactive, it is not like that.

May be owing to your surfing habit or some other protection software is keeping the windows free from malwares, hence WD dont need to generate any message.
