Windows Experience Index in Windows 7 OS gives the right performance report of our system? Is there any way to increase the index range by tweaking our PC?

My Windows 7 Experience Index rating shows only 3.7 and I feel its very less when comparing to my friends system, Is it just some number given or its really the rating of the performance of our system? Is there any way to increase the index range by tweaking our PC?

when you first install and run windows 7 it calculates your windows experience index score to evaluate the speed and graphics of your computer.

you must right click the computer and click on properties. here you will get to know the machines Windows experience index

the procedure of doing this is:

1: go to C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\Datastore and check for the latest xml file
    2: open it with word
3: navigate the lines 12-19 which will show you the rating of your PC on various accounts. they are meant to have range from 1.0 to 5.9
which you can adjust in line 12 to whatever figure you want
4: save the file with the same name
    5: disable uac
6: check your WEI. it will show you the figure you wrote
your new WEI will be permanently saved till you run the performance test again.

Windows Experience IndexWEI scores currently range from 1 to 5.9. Your computer is rated with an overall score, called the base score, and with subscores for each of five individual hardware components: processor, memory, graphics, gaming graphics, and primary hard disk. The base score is determined from the lowest of the five subscores, because your computer's performance is limited by its slowest or least-powerful hardware component.Finding your scoresHere's how to find your computer's WEI scores:1. Open Performance Information and Tools by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking System and Maintenance, and then clicking Performance Information and Tools.2. View the Windows Experience Index base score and subscores for your computer. If you have recently upgraded your hardware and want to find out if your score has changed, click Update my score. If you don't see subscores and a base score, click Score this computer.
    STEP TO INCREASE WEI RANGE
STEP 1 :- Go to Run
STEP 2:- Type %windir%\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore in the start menu search box and press enter
STEP 3 :- A new window will open with a list of xml files. Sort the files according to the date modified
STEP 4 :- Now open the most recent file with WordPad
STEP 5 :- Go to the line having the name winSPR and change the values as you wish
Step 6 :- After editing and providing new values, save the document. This is it. Now when you open the WEI window you can see the new edited scores. This will enable you to run the application which wouldn’t run earlier. You can even show-off the new improved scores to your friends
