    Windows Explorer shows folders with lock Icon in windows 7

    Frankly speaking. I have just started using computer and windows. My desktop computer came with windows 7. It is working fine but windows Explorer also shows few files with lock icon. I am worried about it. Are they harmful?

    Don't worry about it. It is not an issue. The Lock Icon shows that the files are not shared with other people. You can use the sharing option by right clicking on that folder and choosing "Share With" option. However, if you are on network then It would be unsafe for you because it will make your folder visible to anyone on network. If it is temporary problem then try refreshing by pressing "F5" button. If you are using any encryption program like Bit Locker then it might be due to it as well so decryption will remove the lock.

    To solve this problem follow these steps

    • To remove the lock icon change the security settings on the folder
    • First right click on the folder which is having the lock symbol
    • Then select the properties option
    • Now choose the security tab
    • Then click on edit button
    • Now list of groups and users
    • Then click on Add button
    • Now enter the Users in the text field then click on the check names
    • Then click on OK
    • you can also provide the specific permissions that users group
    • then click on OK
    Then return to the home screen now you can see the folders with out lock

    STEPS TO SOLVE FOLDER LOCK ICON PROBLEM

    1. Right Click on Folder that has lock icon. A Pop-Up Menu Appears

    2. Click on Properties option in Pop-Up Menu
    3. Click on Security TAB from properties window
    4. Choose "system" as username and Click on Edit
    5. Now Security windows appears after edit click on Add button
    6. Select user or group dialog box appears
    7. Type in users and click on check names or you can also click on Advanced option and then find username
    8. click ok
    9. Again click ok

    Hello Friend

    1.click the End the explorer.

    2.Now navigate to the files location in the command prompt.

    3.Noe delete the locked file through the command prompt.

    4. By using the delete command type the del file name.

    5.Now finally restart the explorer process.

    Hi, friend

    To Remove the Lock Icon from the folder follow the below procedure

    Simply go to the location of folder ...and right click on it

    then choose the properties ...and tap on Security tab

    now click the Edit button

    then select Full Control option from the list

    now click the Apply button ....and if prompted for User permission simply click the Continue button ... for each file from the folder

    and then finally click the OK button

    after that Lock Icon will be removed from the folder

    ALL THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    1 first of all right click on the FOLDER that is having a lock symbol
    2 a pop up menu will appear from that click on properties option
    3 now click to the secutity tab
    4 after that click on edit and then to add button
    5 type user name and click on check name
    6 then select ok

    Hello friend,


    I have the solution for your problem just do as i say.................

    1.This was the problem of the small settings.

    2.Firstly make a right click on the locked icons.

    3.Then you open their properties.

    4.Then you click on the 'Security' tab.

    5.And there you click on the option 'Edit' and then 'Add'.

    6.At last give the correct user name to it and then save it.

    I hope by doing as i said you can get rid of those lock icons.

    This will work for you
    >>Right-click the folder or drive that has a lock icon and select "Properties".
    >>Click on the "Security" tab, then select "Edit..." to change permissions. Click "Add.."
    >>In the text field for "Object Name", enter in "Users" (without quotations). Hit "OK".
    >>"Apply", "OK", and voila, the padlock next to the icons should be gone.

    Hello dear dude

    The lock icon on windows 7 indicates that the file or folder can access only by you not any other user on your computer

    To remove the lock icon you have to change the security settings on the folder to allow the user groups

    Right click on the folder with the lock icon and select on properties

    Switch to the security tab and then press the Edit button

    A list of groups and users that have that have access to the folder appers

    Now click ADD button

    You need to do is enter Users in the text field and click the check names button

    Keep clicking Ok untill you are back at the explorer window


    That is all
