    Windows Media Player does not recognize music from external hard drive in HP desktop

    The Windows Media Player is not able to recognize music from external hard drive in my HP desktop. Please explain why is it to and how to solve this problem.

    Check that what kind of music files you are trying to play.

    If you are playing any unsupported type file then you can face this problem.

    Check whether your files is in the list or not.

    .asf, .wma, .wmv, .wm, .asx, .wax, .wvx, .wpl, .dvr-ms, .wmd, .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .m1v, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .mpe, .mpv2, .m3u, .mid, .midi, .rmi, .aif, .aifc, .aiff, .au, .snd, .wav, .cda, .ivf, .wmz, .wms, .mov, .qt

    These are the supported file formats for windows media player.

    If you are playing any of this file but still facing the problem then, copy the music file from the external hard drive to the computer & then try to play.

    If you see the problem again then restore your system from a good restore point.

    This Problem arises when you are using files of unsupported formats of windows media player,
    These are file formats windows media player supports
    Windows Media formats:.asf, .asx, .avi, .wav, .wma, .wax, .wm, .wmv, .wvx
    Audio Visual Interleave:.avi
    Moving Pictures Experts Group:.mpeg,m3u, mp2v, .mpg, .mpeg, .m1v, .mp2, .mp3, .m3u, .mpa, .mpe, mpv2
    DVD Video:.vob.,etc.,
    These are some formats which suppots windows media player
    If you are using files which are these formats
    then windows media player have corrupted or not working properly due to missing of files,if this problem then Install latest windows media player as latest player supports some more file formats.

    This problem is occuring due:-

    1.May be Media files is unsupported For windows media player.
    please make sure that Media files is supported by Windows media player.

    Window media player supports:-
    .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .m1v, .mp2, .mp3, .mpa, .mpe, .mpv2, .m3u, .mid, .midi, .rmi, .aif, .aifc, .aiff, .au, .snd, .wav, .cda, .ivf, .wmz, .wms, .mov, .qt, .asf, .wma, .wmv, .wm, .asx, .wax, .wvx, .wpl, .dvr-ms, .wmd

    2.Check whether External Hard disks is connected properly.

    3.check,files are corrupted or not.
    if files are corrupted then use antivirus or other software to repair it.
