Windows Media Player not playing the DVD

WIndows Media Player was working fine till last week and i was able to play a video through my DVD. Now the same windows media player doesn't recognize the DVD. I am sure that, i haven't made any changes in settings or introduced any new program in my computer. What should I do to fix this issue?

First of all try using a different DVD to check whether your DVD is faulty or Windows Media Player is faulty. Open windows explorer and check whether it shows the DVD contents or not. If it shows the contents then it means your Windows Media Player is faulty. To fix this issue, you will have to reinstall it through windows features. To do the same, click on "Start" button>>Control Panel>>Programs and Features.Click on "Turn Windows Features on or Off". It can ask you for Administrator password so provide it. In the list, find "Media Features" and expand it. Now uncheck Windows Media Player option and wait for it to get disabled. Once done, click on Ok and restart your computer. On restart, follow all the above steps and this time check the windows media player option. It will fix your issue.

    Dear friend,
Its a very annoying thing for a user that its computer does not to play a dvd player.
I agree with you that windows media player is dumb and known to have issues playing anything.
Try to see if the required codecs are installed in your computer. Sometimes this is an issue and the pc does not give an error about it.
If the problem still persists on having the codec issue solved. Consult to your vendor as this is a hardware problem to the best of my knowledge.

Hope this gives you a direction to your problem.

Re: Windows Media Player not playing the DVD

There can be several issues related to what you have experienced with DVD playing in your computer.

    1. the DVD can be corrupted, there can be error in the media and Windows Media Player cant read it.
    2. The optical drive head/lense can be damaged , unclean, mis aligned to disable it fron reading the disk.
    3. the Windows Media Player can have issues which is the reason for not supporting its task of reading and playing.

Check the media if it has any issue. Check the optical drive, clean it with a cleaner, try to play the DVD,
If still unsuccessfull, think about uninstalling the WMP and installing the latest WMP downloading from Microsoft website.

At first you have to go to the Windows Media Player.

Then in the driver of DVD,the DVD is to be inserted which you want according to your choice.

Now press the 'quick access panel' button which is present in the Wndows Media Player menu and this is done when the disc can't begin.
