Windows start up issues in Acer laptop

When I try starting up windows in my Acer laptop, I see a blue screen and receive a message like STOP-registry file failure. What is this issue and how to fix it?

when you try to install a windows XP on new formatted drive you get this error. The message is shown after windows xp is loaded in the system and computer restarts. TO resolve this issue. check the hardware compatibility with windows OS. The hard drive where you are trying to install windows may be damaged. Use the chkdisk command to check the disk if disk is damaged then change the disk.

You should start off by testing your Theory

Use a Live Linux and boot off the CD, if the unit now works correctly you need to look at the OS Loaded and as this is a fairly recent Acer it most likely has a Recovery Partition which you can recover from. The only down side is that you'll loose all of your Saved Data so you'll first need to Backup all of you Data and you can use the Live Linux for this to either save to a USB Device of some description or burn it to a CD/DVD.

You can either source a Live Linux as a Cover CD on a Linux Mag at your Local Newsagent or download from here

    DEAR::::
You can run startup repair to troubleshoot startup issues.
1.Remove all floppy disks, CDs, and DVDs from your computer, and then restart your computer using the computer's power button.
    2.Do one of the following:
    · If your computer has a single operating system installed, press and hold the F8 key as your computer restarts. You need to press F8 before the Windows logo appears. If the Windows logo appears, you need to try again by waiting until the Windows logon prompt appears, and then shutting down and restarting your computer.
    · If your computer has more than one operating system, use the arrow keys to highlight the operating system you want to repair, and then press and hold F8.
3.On the Advanced Boot Options screen, use the arrow keys to highlight Repair your computer, and then press Enter. (If Repair your computer isn't listed as an option, then your computer doesn't include preinstalled recovery options, or your network administrator has turned them off.)
4.Select a keyboard layout, and then click Next.
5.On the System Recovery Options menu, click a Startup Repair tool to open it.

    dear friend,

There are some reasons behind this error-

If your hard drive where you want to install the OS is corrupted.

If your computer is not compatible for the OS which you are trying to install.

    Solution-

    1. Check whether your system is compatible or not with the OS you are trying to install.

    2. Check the status of the hard disc-

    • Insert the OS DVD in the DVD drive.
    • Press R when you are prompted to select the Recovery.
    • Provide the administrator password if prompted.
    • Open the command prompt & type chkdsk /r followed by press enter.
    • Wait for some time when the command prompt is checking your disk.
    • Go through the errors (if any found) & take the proper action as per suggestion.
After finishing the process restart your computer & check for the error.

    3. If you found any error in your hard disc then you must replace it with a new one to get the permanent solution.
