Windows Update not running on Windows Vista even after the service status shows running in MSCONFIG

Whenever I make an attempt to run Windows Update on my PC upgraded to Windows Vista, I am getting the error message that the Windows Update cannot run because the windows update service isn’t running and the computer should be restarted. Restart also didn’t help to solve this. When I type MSCONFIG into the ‘Open’ box and check the Configuration Utility window, I found that the windows update service is already running. What steps should I take to run the update successfully?

Type services.msc into the ‘Open’ box after selecting ‘Run’ option from the start menu and press the ‘Enter’ key. Double click on the Windows Update afterwards and check whether it is already running. You need to also make certain that the Startup Type is set to ‘Automatic’. After that, make sure that the services, Remote Procedure Call (RPC), DCOM Server Process Launcher and RPC Endpoint Mapper are running and their Startup Type shows ‘Automatic’. Then, restart the PC and check whether it is possible to run the update. If the issue still persists, then enter cmd.exe into the ‘Open’ box and hit the ‘Enter’ key. Right click on the command prompt after that and select ‘run as administrator’ option. After that, enter the following commands into the black command prompt window and press the ‘Enter’ key one after the other.
    • cd %windir%
    • net stop wuauserv
    • ren softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.old
    • net start wuauserv

    DEAR FRIEND,

And to update the windows ...........simply follow the given

first check the windows update settings......either it is enabled or not

and for the checking.......go to control panel and click on system and security option

after that click the windows update option .....and next click change settings option from the left pane

then drop down the important updates and select it as install updates automatically

then click the OK button ....

now go to start menu and click the internet explorer

then press alt+t combination .....and click the windows update option from the popup

    AND ANOTHER WAY IS:

and after click administrative tools ....and double click on the services short cut

and find the windows update from the list and right click on it
