Windows Vista can’t open photos on memory card

I have connected the memory card into my laptop running on Windows Vista for opening the photos in it. But, it tends to display the error message “Photo Gallery can't open this video or format. This file is not supported”. I checked the file format and the photo gallery do support the format. Do I need to take some additional steps to open the pictures?

You need to set Windows Photo Gallery as default program for opening the pictures. Click the ‘Start’ button on the bottom left corner of the desktop for that. Go through the start menu and type Default Program into the start search box. A window will pop up on the screen along with lot of options. Choose ‘Set your default program’ option visible on that window. Click the ‘Windows Photo Gallery’ option available on the screen. Finally, select ‘Select this program as default’ option for making Windows Photo Gallery as default program.
