Windows Vista Home Premium shows error 0x80070424 while checking for updates

It is not possible to install Windows Updates into my PC running on Windows Vista Home Premium. Every time, I hit the ‘Check for updates’ button, I can view a message saying “service is not running, restart your computer” along with an error code 0x80070424. In what way can I install the updates properly on my system?

Go to the bottom left part of the desktop and hit the ‘Start’ button. A menu will then pop up on the screen at the bottom left side. Go through the options listed on that menu and locate the ‘Run’ option. Click on that option afterwards and wait until the ‘Run’ dialog box appears on the screen. You can then find a text field next to ‘Open’ label visible on that box. Type the command, %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\REGSVR32.EXE %SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\WUAUENG.DLL into that field. Once you finish typing the command, press the ‘Enter’ key on the keyboard to execute it.
