Re: Windows Vista installation error code 0x80070005 in HP notebook

    DEAR::

Windows Vista contains many features not included in previous Windows versions. Some consider XP to be the more stable operating system and prefer it to the enhancements in Vista. Vista isn't flawless by any means and will evoke an occasional error code. You can decipher most of these errors quickly--you just have to know what they mean.

    0xc0000034
A "0xc0000034" error will occur when Vista is first started and is accompanied by the message "The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information." Two things cause this condition: Either the "Boot\BCD" file is missing or damaged, or the Windows Boot Manager is not in the Boot Configuration Data. Fix this error by using the "Startup Repair" option on the Windows Vista CD.

    0x0000007B
Stop errors are usually accompanied by the infamous "Blue Screen" and an error message preceded by the word "STOP." This screen can pop up unexpectedly and is often attributed to bad memory. The "0x0000007B" Stop error happens during a Windows Vista installation. It basically means that the setup program is having difficulty accessing the hard drive that contains the startup files. Often the cause is the inability to load the proper driver for the hard disk controller. If the driver doesn't load, the hard drive can't be read. Other causes of this error are a bad hard drive and a loose cable.

    0x000000A5
The "0x000000A5" error usually indicates incompatibility between the Basic Input/Output System and the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface. Additionally, other incompatible drivers, peripherals and hardware will produce this error. It surfaces while upgrading to Vista from a previous operating system or installing Vista on an older machine. The easy fix is to contact your PC manufacturer to obtain a BIOS update. Disconnect newly installed hardware, especially any not supported by Vista or the manufacturer. Microsoft recommends rolling back to the previous operating system and attempting the upgrade again.

    0x00000024
Vista will encounter the "0x00000024" error while trying to access the hard disk. Driver incompatibility is one cause, but it's more likely the file system or partition is corrupted. Use the Windows Vista installation disc to run Recovery Mode: Insert the disc before startup and press any key. At the command prompt, type "chkdsk drive: /r". Replace "drive" with the appropriate drive letter, usually "C".

Re: Windows Vista installation error code 0x80070005 in HP notebook

    DEAR::

Error code 0x80070005 indicates that your Windows account does not have the privileges required to perform the installation of an operating system on the computer. This issue can be corrected by giving yourself administrative access using the command prompt in Windows before installing the Vista operating system. After obtaining administrative access, you will be able to proceed with the Vista installation without seeing this error code.
1.Click the "Start" button in the lower left corner of the Windows desktop. Highlight "All Programs" with your cursor, then highlight "Accessories" in the menu.

2.Right-click on "Command Prompt" in the "Accessories" menu. Click "Run as Administrator" and select "Yes" in the dialog window that appears.

3.Type "slmgr.vbs" on the first line of the black "Command Prompt" window. Verify that you have typed the command correctly and tap the "Enter" key on your keyboard. The command will run and the "Command Prompt" window will close.

4.Restart your computer and allow the desktop to load. Load the Windows Vista CD into your computer and click "Install Now" in the "Install Windows" screen. Choose to download Windows updates in the "Get Important Updates" screen.

5.Type the Vista CD key into the empty boxes to continue with the installation. If Windows Vista was installed on your system when you purchased it, the Vista key can be found on a sticker on your computer. If you purchased Vista separately, the key can be found on the case that contained the Vista installation CD.

6.Click "I accept the license terms" after reading Microsoft's terms for installing the operating system. Choose "Custom" as the installation type and select where you want Vista to be installed. Click "Next" and the installation will begin. You should not see error code 0x80070005 again.

Re: Windows Vista installation error code 0x80070005 in HP notebook

I just reinstalled Windows Vista HP on my desktop computer yesterday. I use a
Cradlepoint MBR1000 router to access the internet and files on my laptop (and
visa versa). The router is connected to the desktop via a CAT5 cable into the
LAN port. A USB720 modem is connected to the router (provides internet access
    wirelessly).

I have set up my desktop computer for file sharing and printer sharing. Up
until I reinstalled Vista (for unrelated reasons), this all worked fine. Now,
though it has ceased working. I have attempted to reset all the permissions
to wide open -- EVERYONE to read, write and control files/folders -- on both
computers. I have turned off the firewall thinking that was a barrier.
Nothing has helped. I am now growing bald!

When I attempt to access any drive/folder/file from the laptop that is on
the desktop, I see this: Windows cannot access \\Home-pc\c - Check the
spelling of the name. Otherwise, there might be a problem with your network.
To try to identify and resolve network problems, click Diagnose.

    So I did.

And....I see: "c" is available but the user account that you are logged with
was denied access. Windows cannot further diagnose the problem because
network diagnostics does not know the user name and password required to
    connect to the shared folder.
Make sure you have typed the path correctly and you have permission to
access the shared folder. If you are trying to access the shared folder with
a user name and password that is different from what you used to log on to
this computer, ensure that you have entered them correctly. Click for more
    information about permissions.

Error Code 0x80070005 - Access is Denied

Upon the advice from a Cradlepoint tech, I tried to ping both computer IP's
to see if the computers see each other. Both pings are successful - no
    timeouts.
