    After my latest update in Windows XP, the icons in Control panel got changed. The icon also has a label of "folder". How to resolve this issue?

    Actually its not a problem at all, as windows XP contain two modes of control panel.
    1. The default user friendly mode, in this mode you see the icons of different applications.
    2. Classic mode which is used in the precious versions of Windows. In this view all applets are dumped into folder.

    To change to default view you right click on start button and choose properties and from here you can choose the customize and at bottom you will find default settings. You can choose default settings or you can select the display as a link under the control panel tab.

    HI,

    The display of Icons as Folder is not a big issue, as the View selection can alter the display.
    The Standard View displayed by the Windows is responsible for the situation, change to Classic View to alter the view.

    If you are having trouble to see all the Icons then here is something that will solve the problem.

    Upgrading from an earlier version of Windows to XP, you may find several icons are missing from Control Panel.
    This is due to a bug in Windows XP where certain registry entries left by the previous version are left untouched. which need to be fixed :
    Run REGEDIT from the Command Prompt.
    Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Control Panel, Delete "Don't load key" entirely, close the Registry Editor.

    Thanks.

    Control Panel >
    Option = Display
    Tab = Desktop
    Button = Customize Desktop
    Tab = General
    Make changes as desired
    Suggest pressing Restore Defaults button
    Ok
