If you clearly state the problem then it is easy to identify and provide a solution for your problem.
If you need to restore your computerr to a earlier form then use system restore to do it.

    dear friend,

It seems like your windows XP is not the full version OS or it might be pirated.

Since the validity period of your OS is over so you are facing this problem.

It'll be better if your upgrade your windows from microsoft.com.

    It'll surely solve your problem.

If your OS is not genuine then try to buy the genuine version of OS.

    It'll bring better performance.

Re: Windows XP not restoring Active desktop

    Hi,
Are you saying that every time you start your machine, you are not able to log in normally into your machine. If you are not able to see the normal screen or which we call the active desktop, then you need to format your machine and reconfigure the windows XP settings. Ask your vendor to do this for you. After you reconfigure your machine, then when again you reboot your machine, you will the required logon screen or the active desktop. The problem you are having is just probably due to some corrupted file in your OS or some missing DLL files. When you re-install the software all those missing files will be back on the machine.
