Windows XP system fail to show the contents in USB Drive.

I have connected an External Hard Drive to my Windows XP computer, the size of the drive is 500GB out of which 180GB is filled and remaining is free space. So when I connected the drive to my computer, it shows that there is no data in the drive and the drive is empty. But the same drive data can be viewed on my Windows 7 laptop. Please help me.

    Hello Friend,
    Follow the given steps -

STEP 1-You have to scan your external drive first and the computer in which you are plugging.
STEP 2-It is not detected properly or inserted properly.
STEP 3-In Windows XP it is not detecting or it is not detecting on another OS.
STEP 4-See that Windows XP was able to install the driver of your drive or not.

I hope this information is useful
    Thank You

    Hello friend,

I have the solution for your problem just do as i say.........................

1.This can be the problem of your USB port or the USb drivers problem.

2.So make a right click on the 'My Computer' and then click on 'Manage'.

3.And then click on 'Device Manager' and then go to the driver tab and then update the USB drivers.

4.If still you have the problem then it is the problem of your USB port.

5.It may be not working or the cable connections of it may be lost.

6.So you try to repair it and your problem will be solved.

    Have a nice day..............................

    Hey.

There are only two solutions of your problem in my mind now..

    First -

May be your hard drive data become Hidden by mistake or by some virus infection..

To fix this try these steps -

    - In windows xp, open My Computer.

    - Click on Tools menu.

    - Click on Folder Options.

    - Click on View tab.

    - Look for option "Show hidden files or folders" and click on it.

    - Finally click on Apply and then click on OK button.

    - Now plug your hard drive in and check.

    Second -

May be your hard drive's file system or other properties doesn't meet the compatibility of Windows XP. Also some times the hard drives formatted with windows 7 do not work in windows xp.

Do not panic.. Try these steps-

1- First plug in your hard drive in your windows xp computer.

(As your question I think the hard drive is showing in My Computer, if not go to step 6)

2- Simply right click on the Hard Drive which is showing in My Computer.

3- And then click on properties.

4- If it is showing total space and space used and space remaining correctly then the first solution would help.

5- But if it is not showing the details of hard drive this means Windows XP is not supporting the hard drive well.

6- So you need first to move the hard drive data to a safe place and Format the hard drive in windows xp and then move your data back to the hard drive.

(by doing this your hard drive will become compatible for windows xp)

    May my suggestions help you..

    Good Luck

    Thank You.

    Hello Friend,

Well, to sort out the issue of your USB drive you should first check whether you have inserted the USB drive to the USB Socket tightly or not. Generally, this happens when there is loose connection. Next you have to scan your USB drive and your PC for a possibel virus attack. sometimes viruses do make content of USB drive looks empty. Next, you should check whether there is any problem with your USB port or not. If so then you have to make alternative arrangements for your USB drive. Update your USB driver and check whether you are getting any connection with your USB drive or not. It seems to me there is some hardware issue and you have to find out that quickly.

    Bye,

    Dear User

First of all check whether the Usb is connected properly or not and also check Whether the connected port working properly or not .And some times the Data in the USB drive will be hidden So, try to change the settings about the hidden options. Press windows key+R and type control folders and click OK .Then select >>Show hidden options<< and click the OK button.

There are case when your contents are hidden for security purposes and sometimes by virus attack. If Not happening then try to use usb on some other ports.
