Windows XP System shuts down by raising the error “0X00000008E”

I turned ON the Windows XP System and when tried to open any program, I got an error “0X00000008E”. While close the message box, system shuts down. I turned it ON again and the problem is same. What might be the problem? Please, help me!

    Hi,

Try the following to solve the problem of dead system.

Right click "My Computer" > "Properties" > " Advanced" > " Startup and Recovery Settings",
    In the System failure section:

Check mark "Write an event to the system log" box,
Check mark "Send an administrative alert" box,
    Uncheck "Automatically restart" box,

In the "Write debugging information" section, select :
Small memory dump (64 KB), Set "Small dump" directory to: %SystemRoot%\Minidump , OK, Save .

    Reboot the computer.

This should eliminate the events responsible for the dead screen situation of Windows.

    Thanks.

After you right click My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab > System startup and recovery button (Settings) is near the bottom as in the image below. It is a button and not a tab. When you click the button Startup and Recovery window will open as shown below.
