Re: Disabling automatic update on Windows Vista

The first step required to disable automatic update is to open Windows Update by performing following steps one by one.
    • Click on ‘Start’ button
    • Select the option ‘All Programs’
    • Click on ‘Windows Update’
Then, you should click on ‘Change settings’ option seen on the left pane. After that, you should select the relevant option which allows you to disable automatic updating. You can then view ‘Recommended updates’ on your screen. Under that option, you can find ‘Include recommended updates when downloading, installing, or notifying me about updates’ along with a checkbox. You should select that checkbox and click on ‘OK’ option. You should type password or give confirmation finally, if prompted.

Re: Disabling automatic update on Windows Vista

In Vista you have the following options to install updates :

Notify if updates are available and ask before installation
Notify you about updates & installing automatically
    Dont check for updates

So, you have to select the third option.

Go to Start and type "Windows Update".
    Now click "Change Setting".
Now select the option which you want.

Here is a simple tutorial which explains above mentioned steps .
