Is it possible to use Windows 2000 installation disk to repair corrupt Windows XP software/config file?

I have Windows XP running in my PC and recently I got the blue screen which said that problem could be the /systemroot/system32/config/software is not loaded. Now I have only Windows 2000 installation disk is it possible to get into the Windows XP recovery mode with it? Can you please tell me how should I handle this problem now?

    Hi,

The answer to your query is a definite no as the files are mostlyversion specific, and software especially system related softwares are written differently to provide better experience with every new versions developed. Compatibility factor creeps in .

You can try still, copy all files of the directory as mentioned by Windows XP error message, from Windows 2000 same directory and manually copy them in Windows XP.
Reboot and watch for the result.

    Thank you.
