What has to be done for re-installing MapI32.dll on Windows XP?

When I try to install a Windows Update into my laptop running on Windows XP, I will get an error message saying “Reinstall: MapI32.dll (Windows Search.exe)”. I have rebooted the PC and tried to install the update again. The same error dialog box pops up on the screen after that. What should I do to fix up this issue?

There are a number of possibilities and some of them are discussed later for your benefit.

Repair your Windows. If the individual mapi32.dll file troubleshooting is unsuccessful, a startup repair or repair installation should restore all Windows DLL files to their working conditions.

Clean install Windows. A clean install of Windows will erase everything from HDD and install a fresh copy of Windows. this should be your next course of action.

Run the sfc /scannow, to replace a missing or corrupt copy of the mapi32.dll file. If this DLL file is provided my Microsoft, the "System File Checker" should restore it.

Roll back a driver to a previously installed version, if mapi32.dll errors began after updating a particular hardware device's driver.

"System Restore" to undo recent system changes. If the mapi32.dll error was caused by a change made to an important file or configuration, a System Restore could solve the issue.
